World construction output to fall –3.7% this year

Global con­struc­tion out­put will fall –3.7% this year accord­ing to IHS Global Insight. The fore­cast­ing company’s lat­est Global Con­struc­tion Out­look said this is the steep­est drop for at least 20 years. This year’s fall comes on the back of a –1.8% fall in con­struc­tion in 2008. The mar­ket will shrink to US$ 5.6 tril­lion this year, with every region except Asia see­ing a fall in con­struc­tion spend­ing. Although the Japan­ese and Korean mar­kets are set to con­tract, growth in China and India in par­tic­u­lar will lift the region’s con­struc­tion out­put by +2.6% this year.
