State Farm, the largest automobile insurer in the US, has released the Pocket Agent iPhone app for its customers via Apple’s iTunes store. The app provides the basic tools needed to initiate a State Farm claim. This includes: contacting your agent, finding a repair facility, searching for agents via zip code and submitting your claim.
Although this type of product is not new (see Nationwide iPhone App) the approach is unique. In an exclusive interview with Kip Diggs, State Farm Media Relations Specialist, the evolution and success of this application will be based on customer feedback. State Farm is encouraging customers to share their thoughts about this app via Twitter and Facebook. According to Mr. Diggs, State Farm has chosen to market this product “virally”, electing to not participate in traditional marketing efforts.
